About

Aupa! Urte askotarako!  I’m Eugene, a perpetual student, occasional teacher, former policy advocate, follower of Jesus, and vagabond transplant.  Though I have roots in “the golden state” and “the land of the morning calm,” I’ve got an abiding soft spot for Euskadi, a soft spot which grew out of many visits over the years while living in Spain.  In the summer of 2022, I had the blessing of calling Euskadi home for several weeks.

This blog is dedicated to the Basque people, several of whom who have shown me a bit of their neighborhoods, stomping grounds, and hidden gems.  Eskerrik asko for your time, knowledge, and most of all, kindness.

This blog is also dedicated to the diverse Basque landscapes – brimming with magical forests, mythical mountains, charming towns, beautiful  beaches, and stunning flysch.

And finally, this blog is dedicated to Basque food and drink, and to the many people whose livelihoods give us the bounty of the Bay (of Biscay) and the harvest of the land – the txakoli, the turbot, the guindillas, the
txistorra, the sidra, the idiazabal, and so much more.

Euskalogy aims to share a bit about the Basque culture and the Basque language, euskera, from a learner’s perspective – one experience at a time.  And we hope to share the wonder and joy of getting to know a unique culture and learning a new language, along with a love of this small, yet mighty community.
